The mystery handset matches up with a number of rumours surrounding the upcoming handset.
Samsung might accidentally have spoiled its own big phone announcement.
Its display division has published a pair of adverts showing off a smartphone that matches a number
of leaks and rumours surrounding the upcoming Galaxy S8.
The South Korean firm is expected to unveil the new handset shortly, with a February or April launch
looking highly likely. As ever, there’s plenty of gossip speculating on the device’s design, features and price.
Samsung itself has created a stir by posting two adverts on the YouTube account of its Display division,
both of which depict a mystery smartphone with a slick new design and no home button.
It also features super-slim bezels and a headphone jack, with the latter in particular a cause for celebration. Early reports suggested the S8 would drop the headphone jack, but SamMobile and Android Police now say that it's sticking around.
Apple infamously dropped the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, hailing the unpopular move as a “brave” decision. HTC has since followed, launching the headphone jack-less U Ultra earlier
this month.
It’s highly likely, however, that Samsung is actually having a little fun of its own at the expense of tech tipsters.
The phone in the adverts may just be a render rather than an actual device, and the company knows that posting ambiguous updates ahead of a major launch is a sure-fire way to boost Galaxy S8 coverage.
Last year’s Galaxy S7 proved a smash hit, but the company needs to up its game in order to make up for the disastrous Note 7.
