Who have been the best players in the Premier League for the month of September? JJ Bull has ranked them for the Babbello Index.
20.
Jason Puncheon (Crystal Palace)

Somehow, Jason Puncheon has created more chances in the Premier
League than any other player since the season started. More than De
Bruyne, Payet – everyone. What is life? Superb performances against
Sunderland and Stoke, where he grabbed an assist, were the highlights of
Puncheon's excellent month.
19. Etienne Capoue (Watford)
Capoue’s season may already have peaked. He has been superb since August, and last month scored two, assisted one and was the start of the show against Manchester United in a 3-1 win. He didn’t manage to have as much of an impact in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth or 2-0 loss to Burnley though, suggesting that opposition teams have already identified him as a threat which must be dealt with instead of “just Etienne Capoue”. I may also definitely be overreacting to his season peaking.
18. Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Fantasy Football fans rejoice! Lukaku has rediscovered his some-of-the-time-sort-of lethal goal-scoring touch. Everton’s star striker scored five goals in four games during September, finally converting some of the chances that his teammates have been creating. Tellingly, he always gets a chance or two in a game - if he gets get three the floodgates open.
17. Paul Pogba (Man Utd)

Hasn’t quite set the Premier League on fire yet but some of his touches, passes and flashes of dribbling skill are an absolute joy to watch. Improved dramatically the instant that Wayne Rooney was left out of the starting XI, finally having space to move into to play his natural attacking game.
16. Raheem Sterling (Man City)

Sterling is BACK and on fire, baby. Except for against Spurs. With two goals and an assist during September, Sterling’s output is improving and his all-round performance against Bournemouth was brilliant. Struggled to make any sort impression against Spurs, and wasn’t at the races against Manchester United either – needs to improve in the big games.
15. Sergio Aguero (Man City)

Injury has interrupted his form but Aguero is the best striker in the league by some distance when he's playing well. He only started two league games in September, scoring twice against Swansea in a Man of the Match performance which followed a hat-trick in the Champions League, but was kept quiet by Spurs.
14. Willian (Chelsea)

Even if Chelsea haven’t been superb for much of the season so far, Willian has. His efforts on the wing have not been matched by under-performing teammates though; Willian has created the second highest amount of assists in the league (23) but none have been taken. As in he hasn't been awarded any assists yet despite being the second most prolific creator of chances in the league.
13. Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)

Henderson is the player who holds Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team together. He sits at the base of midfield, making the most passes of any player in the league (588 - Santi Cazorla is second with 503), the third highest amount of tackles so far (29) and running 82.39km since the season started, second only to George Boyd out of every player in the Premier League.
In addition, Henderson scored an absolute stunner against Chelsea, finding the top bin with a 30 yard scorcher and confidently controlled games against Leicester, Hull and Swansea. And he's 26, which means there's more to come.
12. Adam Lallana (Liverpool)

Lallana left the field with a groin injury against Swansea and Klopp will be desperate to see him back as soon as possible – the midfielder has been a major reason Liverpool are such an exciting attacking force. Lallana never stops running, is always part of that swarm of players that close down every defender’s every move and his output has been superb too. Two goals and two assists in three games (the 23 minutes he played against Swansea shouldn't count) doesn’t tell the full story of Lallana’s involvement in most things that Liverpool do really well. He’s everywhere.
